Will we be getting a stimulus check under the stimulus package?

During the bush tax cuts, many of us working-class citizens got a check in the mail for a pretty good amount. Certainly enough to get the kids some clothes and treat ourselves to dinner somewhere nice.

Under the new stimulus package »”>Stimulus package, will we also, get a check in the mail that will do this?

I watch the news, but all I hear is either “the stimulus costs too much” or “it doesn’t go far enough.” I seldom hear WHAT the stimulus will do.

No check but more in your check. About $13 per week. The checks that we got under Bush did not do enough to stimulate the economy. Too many used it to pay off bills or to save it. Nothing wrong with that! Just not the expected results. It costs us all in the long run so it wasn’t worth it.

What this new stimulus package will do is to give states earmark money. For special projects like a Kennedy library in Mass and street lights in Miami. If you can figure out how this will help the economy in the long run, you have one up on most people. It might provide some short term work for some but then what? We all get to pay for it for years and years.

no, you will be required to self-stimulate.

LOL, nope. They say you will get about $12 more a week in your check if you work and a fat check at the end of the year in your tax “refund”, but only if you don’t pay taxes. Of course they are going to eat up your big $12 in hidden taxes like gas taxes.

nope, they are giving tax CREDIT which will still be subject to taxation..so if you’re getting 13 dollars extra a week, it will still be taxed so it’s more like 9 dollars, and that’s only for the first year…next year is will go to 4 dollars a week…it will do no good whatsoever…but what has nobama done that has helped?

Most everyone will get a check. The least will be $250 for those on SSI or SSD. Tax payers will get a lot more. I think the target date is for checks to arrive beginning of May.

HR 1 if you want to read the whole bill. I am more interested in when the COBRA healthcare part will be available since I cannot afford to pay $700 a month for a single person and have lost my insurance recently. Under the stimulus plan it will cost me about $250 a month which I can afford until I am working again. I wish they would hurry up with this but it is not the government which is dragging its feet. It is the insurance provider.

I really do not think they should have done this rebate thing. It did not help the economy last time. Neither did the massive tax cuts which if not enacted would have balanced the budgets of the past 8 years.

I don’t think anything will help – we owe too much money to the rest of the world and they can dump our dollars at any time and decimate us.

The jobs programs are the only thing that can get the economy going again. When we go back to work – we spend. At least we might get some good roads and bridges out of this spending instead of blowing up other peoples roads and bridges and then having to fix them.

The 2009 economic stimulus checks are not really a new stimulus plan but rather a second chance at your 2008 stimulus check. Many Americans received a less than expected stimulus check in 2008 or they did not receive one at all and may be eligible to receive the additional stimulus money. This may be due to some following factors:

The rebate checks were limited to the amount of your net tax liability. This is the amount that is found on line 57 on Form 1040, Line 35 on Form 1040A, and line 10 on form 1040EZ.

Your income exceeded certain levels and reduced your rebate amount.
If you were one of the individuals who were affected by some of the guidelines that were in effect in 2008 then you might receive some additional rebate funds under the 2009 recovery rebate credit. This will be a one-time credit to those who did not receive the full amount of their rebate

    Who will receive more money?

You may qualify for more money if your income decreased from 2007 to 2008, you had another qualifying child in 2008 or, if you did not have a valid social security number in 2007 but you did as of 2008.

How do I claim this credit?

This credit can easily be claimed on your 2008 tax return and will be included in your tax refund. This rebate will not come in the form of a check as it did in 2008.
