I got a stimulus payment notification letter, but i do owe Fed and State taxes. Will I get a stimulus check?

    Depends on if they catch on to it in time.

    Not likely, it should be taken toward what you owe. You should get another letter soon telling you what is taken.

    Not likely you will get the check unless the Stimulus amount is over what you owe the IRS. The IRS is required to apply any money that is going to you (i.e. refunds and rebates.) to first be applied to your IRS debt then to any other federal or state debt.

    Your stimulus check will go to pay your back taxes first. According to the IRS:

    Q. I’m eligible for a payment but I still owe federal income tax from a prior year. Will my payment be reduced?

    A. Yes. For this purpose, the stimulus payment is treated like any other tax refund. This means that part or all of your payment can be used to pay past-due federal or state income taxes or non-tax federal debt such as student loans and child support. If this occurs, you will receive a letter explaining how the stimulus payment was applied.
