29th January 2009 – Hot off the press and following just days after our warning for people to be on the lookout for 2009 stimulus check scams, the Mid Columbia Tri City Herald have reported that the Richland Police Department have issued a scam warning with regard to the 2009 stimulus check.

The scam entails the mass sending of emails to the public with the pretence that the email is being sent by the IRS. The content of the email informs the recipient that they are entitled to a 2009 stimulus check and that in order to receive the check they must click on a link in the email and fill out personal details such as bank account number which will give the fraudsters access to the recipients bank account.

The police have informed the public that the IRS will not send unsolicited emails to people regarding their 2009 stimulus check.

29th January 2009 – The New York Times have produced an analysis of the 2009 stimulus package that has just been passed by Congress in which they suggest that there is no reason to think that the 2009 stimulus check will boost the economy because the one paid out last summer has not done so.  The vote for the stimulus bill passed easily, however not 1 member of the opposition voted for the bill.

28th January 2009 - I came across some  good news, for those who haven’t received a 2009 stimulus check. Whilst reading the ABC News site I saw that if you haven’t received a 2009 stimulus chec then you can take it as a tax credit on your 2008 tax return. For individuals the claim should be for $600 and for couples $1200.
