Is there a way you can check on the status of the stimulus rebate check?

I know about the last two digits of your ss # is when they mail the checks but this is for my parents that are living off retirement and ss only. They do not have to file taxes but they did fill out forms to get the stimulus check. My moms last two digits are one of the low numbers but so far no check has arrived. Can calling IRS help me with this?

I hope you mean they filed a return when you say they “filled out the forms” because filing a 2007 return is the only way. And the checks are mailed out according to the last two digits of the primary taxpayer – meaning whoever is listed first on the return. So if your dad is listed first, then it is according to his SSN. And allow a few days for the mail.

You cab go to http://www.irs.gov and then select Where’s my stimulus payment. Keep going until you get to the form that says “Where’s my stimulus payment”. You will have to enter the social security number as it was on the form they filled out, their filing status, and how many number of exemptions was put down. This will either show you when it should be mailed. If it is not ready it won’t show at the time but keep trying. Mine showed the 23rd but it didn’t arrive today.

You say “they” – did they file a joint return? If so, there will be one check for $600 ($300 for each of them) and it will follow the schedule for the ss# of the first person listed on the return.

Calling the IRS isn’t likely to help much, since they’ll just tell you what the schedule is, they won’t have more info until a week or less before it’s due to be mailed, and then it’ll be on the “Where’s my stimulus payment” website.
