How can the stimulus package be derailed?

I called Senator Durbin’s (IL-D) office and asked if the calls into his office were for or against the stimulus package »”>stimulus package. They were against according to the staffer. I told them Senator Durbin needs to vote the will of the people and vote against the ’stimulus’ bill.

Media reports are counting the votes along party lines (with the exception of the 3 republicans that are switching over). No democrats are going to vote the will of the people of their states?

Since the will of the people identifies that stimulus package is not wanted and will likely make things worse -

Since they don’t listen to the calls from the people – what at this point can we do?
FDR’s new deal did not work – why should this?

Historically, it was the new deal that prolonged the great depression as it converted private sector jobs into public sector jobs. It was world war 2 and the increased economic efficiencies that rose this nation out of the great depression.

How do you know the will of the people in each and every Democratic state when all you have to work with is a generalized national poll?

As Keynes himself wrote in a series of letters to FDR, the new deal did not work because it did not go far enough to create demand. That is not a failure of the idea, or the theory, as you obviously were told. Nor did it prolong the depression any more than if there were no new deal program at all. This is the implication of your statement. That is why such statements are half truth and lies. You mischaracterize it to imply that the new deal (and the theory behind it) was a failure that made things worse. It did not, it simply did not help enough.
That’s like saying since a small dose of radiation did not cure the patient, radiation therapy in general is a failure. Complete bunk and those who originated the claim deliberately crafted it to fool those who do not think for themselves.

The stimulus bill is absolutely vital to our survival at this point. We are looking at cataclysmic disaster. What would you suggest? Cut taxes for the rich again, like the Republicans under Bush, and still today call for? It’s lunacy! The American People overwhelmingly voted Obama in office, and voted more Democrats into Congress. Therefore our Representatives are acting in our majority interest. Many Americans may not understand the desperate need for this, but I assure you it is DESPERATE. Ever read the Grapes of Wrath? The Great Depression was about as bad as the holocaust.

Call the white house switch board as well, he’s sensitive to image. Also continue to call the three GOP ’switchers’ Specter Snowe and Collins. Specter now is going to face a primary as a result of this and must be aware of that by now. If they are looking for an excuse to pull out, they will have another chance on the vote on the conference committee.

Otherwise, start writing your state senators and reps (within your state government) to introduce states rights referendums like New Hampshire had, making it clear this is in response to the current government action. From what I’ve read, 20 states have now either introduced or are considering lines in the sand about the federal power grabs and unfunded mandates to the states, and this bill included MUCH more of that.

If the stimulus bill spurs a majority of states to do that, Obama can’t help but take notice.

Agricult the stimulus bill and second bailout to follow are a disaster. Check out Bloomberg. Asia is DECOUPLING from the US economy. I have heard China doesn’t necessarily want to buy any more of our treasuries, so where would the money come from? ALL from printing new money. Hello hyperinflation and destruction of the dollar.

Obama will have a place in history, all right.
