Economic stimulus: I forwarded my adresss with the post office, but will the IRS forward the stimulus check?
Wednesday, February 24, 2010 10:16Posted in category 2009 Stimulus Check
Will the IRS forward the stimulus check, or will it be returned? My date that it is suppose to be here has passed by a week, and still no check.

The IRS actually wont forward those according to their website youd need to update your adress directly with them.

The post office should forward the check to you. You should make sure that the forwarding notice has not expired. It can take two weeks or longer to get the forwarded mail to you.
Next time, file a change of address form with the IRS.

I just called the IRS over this same issue. They told me if you changed your address with USPS, it should get forwarded and you will get it at the new address albeit a week later. It would be best to call the IRS and give them the new address, in case your check does get returned.

i also move recently and was wondering about this same thing… i asked my mailman and he said that as long as you filled out a change of address form with the post office, they will forward it just like any other piece of mail… it normally takes 7-10 business days to receive mail that has been forwarded so hopefully you will have it by next week.

Many post offices won’t forward a federal check although some do. So you need to change your address with the IRS, not just the post office
