Does the stimulus check go to the exes?

My husband owes back child support, will his stimulus check go to them like his tax returns do?

Yes, the stimulus check is treated like any refund for offsets.

yes, unless….. Did you file an “injured spouse” form for refunds? That might make a difference on rebate as well.

Yes, people who owe back taxes, child support, etc… their money is suppose to go to payback those things.

Hi. Even if you file injured spouse the extra rebate checks often go to whom the spouse owes . It happened to me. Why? Because the injured spouse form is used in the original filing, but isn’t in the faces where they see it with the rebate.
If this happens, you probably would never see it as I didn’t because the IRS tells you that you will have to contact the people it went to and tell them it is your money and you want it back. They will give you a whole lot of run around and you would end up having to sue for it. If they are local you have a better chance than if they are out of state. I now file separate but married to avoid further problems.
