2009 Stimulus Checks for those on Benefits

People needed change. That is actually what they saw in Barack Obama before he became the president of the United States. And now that President Barack Obama has signed the 2009 stimulus package, both Americans and non-Americans are happy to know that the new President of the most powerful country in the world is now fulfilling what he promised. He is now trying to stay true to his words so that he can lead America in the country’s quest to emerge from the current economic crisis.

With the current stimulus plan, no American will be left out. Even the recipients of the SS who do not pay taxes and work can actually get a 2009 stimulus check. More often than not, these SS recipients do not get tax credits since they don’t have work. But thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, all of the SS recipients will get will get a one time stimulus check worth $250. All of the social disability recipients are also entitled to have this.

If you are one of the beneficiaries, you don’t have to do anything to get the one off payment. By the time May 9, 2009 comes, these recipients should start to see their stimulus checks arriving.

The American government is meant to serve the people. And since President Barack Obama knows that fact, he is now finding different way and approaches to try and make the United States a great country to live in. Of course, change is not something that only the president can make. Everyone must also do their share in helping as well as supporting the government of America in its quest for a better economy.

Hopefully, the stimulus package that brought hope to a lot of Americans (and even non-Americans) will also be the trigger to create change among the citizens of the country.

The government should be a government of people. As the president finds ways and means to make America the greatest place to live, we should also do our part to help and support the government in its quest for a better America.

I’m so angry I could spit! Why bother to send my wife and I $250? This does two things- it acknowledges that those on SS are not worth the $500 given to others which in effect delcares us second rate citizens, and two, it tosses the dog a very skinny bone. This is not stimulating anything more than anger, and yet even though we may want to hit someone right square in the nose, we who abide by the laws of this country know that we must not do that. Bottom line– this $250 is a total insult!

Mike, I agree with you 100%. My husband and I are, too, collecting SS. How can $250. possibly make an impact in our lives? That’s IF we do in fact receive it. Obama is willing to spend stupid money on grape research, the problems that are created by grasshoppers & locuts and also an issue regarding pigs. Yeah, he’s really concerned about the welfare of the US citizens. He’s an Obamanation! Good luck!

I agree to Mike & Mia email. We worked all our life & paid taxes and now we are being punished, because we are old & cannot work. We don’t work , yet we cannot get any benefits of any kind because we barely draw over the amount to get any aid. And THis Is America???? What happened? Now we suddenly became second rate citizens, because we are old. Now you say we are gonna get $250 for 2 of us. You evidently haven’t bought groceries or meds, we second rate citizens pays the same for both as you do. Please, will it help if I file anyway & get our name on the list? we tried to file a return, but the government rejected it. I was told last year I needed to file even if we didn’t work, in order to be able to get the Stimulas check, now this year they said we couldn’t file because we didn’t pay taxes.
If you’ve got money, your in. If you were hard working citizens for 50 plus years & a Korean vet (husband) your still out & second rate.

Well, I feel that what Obama is doing for those on ssi is great. Look at it this way, last year those didn’t get a dime, now, he’s giving everyone the opportunity to receive a rebate reguardless of your financial situations, and goverment funded programs that you are receiving so, I feel those who get ssi and are get something, should be greatful. $250 beats a zero. What do you think?

Are you kidding? I agree with Mike. $250 is a hard slap in the face. I worked for many years and paid all of my taxes. I went to college, earned a degree, and obtained a high-paying job (as is expected of us by the US Government). I abided all laws and helped everyone that I could, even if it meant giving my last dime. I did everything possible to better myself and the people that surrounded me. Because of a freak accident, not caused by my stupidity, I am now disabled and unable to do anything. The US Government now considers me useless and gives me a mere $900 a month to live. Do the math; thats only $10,800 a year. With that, I am expected to make my house payments (which takes up 2/3 of that money), pay all of my utilities and other bills, buy groceries and medication, and put clothes on my back. I have no life to speak of because I can’t afford to have one. What do you possibly think $250 is going to do for me? Maybe I can buy a week’s worth of medication instead of going without, as usual. Gee, Thanks Obama!

What does he mean, Retirees on SS do not pay taxes? I am on SS and I had to pay taxes last year and this year. this check won’t even make a dent on what my property taxes will be this year on house worse less than the county appraises it for. Just another clue that our government, republican and democrat, do not have a clue. Sure, they will retire with a nice package and probably not have to pay taxes like i do on my pathetic SS income of $20,000

I can’t agree more with what Amy said. I and my wife are both disabled, through no fault of our own. We both worked hard and paid our share of taxes. I refused to let my disibility get the best of me. I went back to college at age 42 and got a degree in electronics to work again and make a decent living. But then I get hit with a brain aneurysm that left me unable to do much of anything. With our combined disibility checks we barely have enough money for food, let alone anything else. Now we get a whopping $250 while everyone else gets $500. .Our average monthly medications run over $500, around $350 for her and $225 for me. This stimulus check is going to help soooo much I can hardly contain myself. I guess that we are truly second class citizens But hey, why worry about US citizens when you can send all that money abroad or give it to the huge companys that need it to maintain those multi-million dollar bonuses for the executives/ THANKS A LOT FOR THE INSULT!

I am also on SS disability due to MS. ONE of my medications, that may i add MEDICARE WILL NOT PAY FOR is $800. a month(Provigil 400mg per da)y. I dont take it and because of that, my disease is taking its toll and is considerably decreasing the quality of my life and the quality of my family life. I have worked my entire life and never ask this government for anything. Now, I need them.. my life is depending on it and they arent there. They are bailing out banks, auto etc, but not helping to bail US OUT of the mess they allowed to happen and covered up. These banks are getting all this money and I have a credit card company that I owe a little less than 200. They harass me as soon as it hits 8am and call almost every 2 hours. I cant pay them. WHERE AND WHAT did that bail out money go to? The solution was easy.. those trillions SHOULD HAVE been split and dispersed to every american citizen. Theeconomy would have immediately turned around. Bills paid, homes bought or mortgages caught up, credit card and car loans paid. Now, we get 250… thanks.. with rising food and other NECESSITY prices rising, maybe my daughter, husband and I will put off starving for another 3 weeks!! Instead of giving the next batch of trillions to a handful of incompetent companies, send it to the people that deserve it.. the citizens. Thanks for listening

This is a reponse to Maggie. You really need to check your facts!!! People on SSI did receive the same stimulus check as all the rest of us. I know this for a fact. My mom is on SSI and all she had to do was send in the form for those who did not file taxes. So to belittle those who are on SS or SSI by not giving them the same as the rest of us is an insult to all of the great law abiding americans that have made this country what it is. You should remember that all of those on SS or SSI have spent most if not all of their lives paying taxes and contributing to the well being of the United States. Thus giving you the opportunity to live your life in a free society.

i am a single mother who is disabled with a disabled child and we are barely surviving. we only get 15 dollars in food stamps and after i pay 450 in rent then all utilities. we may have 100 dollars for food for the month and of course that doesn’t last talk about struggling. this 250 is greatly appreciated.

Someone above stated we didn’t get ANYTHING last year – yes, we did – $300.

Before I became disabled I worked hard, I’ve pd into the system – and now I scrape by hand to mouth on $845/mo. True, a $250 ’stimulus’ check isn’t much – and it’s less than those able to work would receive. Those of us with below-poverty, set incomes aren’t as valuable to the government, so I suppose we should be grateful for anything at all. That’s unfortunate. Good luck to us all! I don’t even recognize this country anymore. Also, we’re looking at a form of socialized medicine next. O great… I lived in Canada 15 months and, despite what Michael Moore says, their system sucks. You wait months and months for medical procedures (colonoscopies, scans, etc) – and for many life-saving operations (had a friend there – Canadian – who almost died while waiting 6 months for gallbladder surgery – he was on antibiotics and narcotics for pain by the time they could get to him) and even chemo. It was wonderful to get back to the USA I knew and loved. I’ve always been proud to be an American and I love my country – this new government is a sham and I’m NOT proud of IT. “Yes we CAN”??? ‘Can’ WHAT??? I’m not very happy with the way things are going rt now.

SS & SSI recipients DID get the check last year, but apparently those who didn’t recieve it just didn’t do what they were supposed to do to get it. Why do people sit here bitchin about the stimulus check? He is doing it to try to help the country. Even if it is only $250, it is $250 more dollars than what you had. and if you are so against getting the checl, here is an idea: DON’T CASH IT!!!!!! if you are in such dire straights because of house payments and care payments and all, then you really shouldn’t complain about it. Obama is tryin to do somethin for this country and all people wanna do is complain (maybe people still can’t accept a black president??) He has been in office for all of 4 months, at least give him some time to do what he has to do. he is doing a hell of a lot more for this country than Bush did. And he is trying to fix the chaos and despair that Bush left this country in. if you really hate Obama that much, move to canada with their free health care, or move to mexico where everything is cheap. and as for complaining about only recieving $900 a month in SS, you get alot more than some others. my mother gets a little over $500 a month and she has a house payment, medicine, bills, groceries, insurance, etc.. to pay so i think you should realize maybe you arent doing as bad as you think you are. why don’t you all give Obama just 1 term to see what he does for the country. if in 3 years and 8 months, the country is no better than what it is now or worse, then start complaining. or better yet, vote for someone else. and you should realize, it took Bush 8 years to ruin this country and it’s economy, so maybe we can give Obama a little more than a few months to fix it.

YOU GO DONNA!!!!!!!! EVERYBODY got the stimulus check last year. And, I agree, those who did not, did not do as they were instructed to. It is so easy to “pass the buck”. Well, everybody quit whining and accept the fact that Obama inherited this mess, and you think he is supposed to fix it in two months. Get your heads out of the sand!! I bet when you get that $250 check, you will spend it!!!!!!!! The government does not have to send us anything. I am on SSD and both my parents are on SS and we all got the stimulus last year.

I am only receiving SS and last year I filed a tax form to receive a stimulus check and was imformed I did not qualify for one. I have no other source of income. So to say everyone got a check last year is wrong. I would appreciate even a check for 250.00 and not complain at all.

This message is for all of you who claimed that you had recieved a stimulus check last year based on ssi checks along. Either you don’t know the difference between ssi and ssa, or you all are a bunch of liars. The SS website clearly states this comment about those who receive ssi only. Q. Does my supplemental security income (SSI) qualify as Social Security benefits for the purpose of the Economic Stimulus Payment?

    A. No, supplemental security income (SSI) payments are not considered Social Security benefits and cannot be included. Because SSI is not taxable, it is not reported to you on Form SSA-1099. Only the amount shown in Box 5 of Form SSA-1099 is consider to qualify as Social Security benefits for purposes of the Economic Stimulus Payments.

People on SSI were NOT given a check in 2008. Those saying they did had best check their facts. Those moaning about this 250 being a slap in the face have incurred my wrath. It’s better than nothing! Mygod, Ah, just read the comment above, it’s spot-on. I for one am anxiously awaiting my check and am darn thankful to get it.

I invested the $250. I bought blueberry plants and a few more garden tools. I did not get the stimulus last year. When I tried to file taxes I was told I did not need to file. Bernie Sanders’ office also told me that I was not eligible for last year’s stimulus check due to the type of SSI received. I am very glad to get this one. In three years time my berry harvest will feed me, my family and the local food shelf.
Look toward the future and let the past go.
