2009 Stimulus Checks due in May
Thursday, May 7, 2009 6:53On 7th April 2009 Joe Biden announced that those entitled to a 2009 stimulus check will start to receive them in May 2009.
People who are eligible for the Supplementary Security or Social Security stimulus check will get a one-time payment worth $250 starting May 2009. This announcement was recently made by the Vice President of United States, Joe Biden. The stimulus check from the Social Security will come from the $13 billion budget that was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act or ARRA 2009, also known as the Obama stimulus.
There are currently over 50 million people who are qualified for the 2009 stimulus check. Nobody has to apply as it will be automatically sent to you in the same way that the Social Security currently pay the benefits.
Vice President Joe Biden also said that the administration of Social Security have already made the necessary preparations, several weeks prior to May 1, 2009. They are now ready and fully-prepared to distribute all the social security checks starting May 2009.
As part of the financial aid to the Americans, the stimulus package actually readjusted the withholding tax percentages of every worker. Couples who are filing their income tax jointly can get as much as $800 while singles or individual earners can have at least $400. There is little doubt that these credits will be a great help for all the working families.
Biden affirmed that the current Obama administration has 18 months to work on the stimulus and they must see to it that every action gives a positive result. He is very determined that the current administration has its ways in finding the right answers for the current dilemma faced by the country.
Joe Biden also included in his announcement that the stimulus package also allocated budget for the energy efficiency as well as energy conservation projects worth $3.2 billion.

the question i have is what about the people that actually do work for a living? i’m glad that everyone who gets some sort of social security gets a check this time, but it is’t very clear about those of us that work.

I think that this suck for people like myself that actually works and don’t receive social security benefits. I think it a good thing that people that only receive social security and do not work will receive a stimulus but does this mean that people like myself that work and do not receive social security will not receive one and if so I don’t agree.

The stimulas that the working class will receive will show up on your work paycheck, what I have noticed is an extra $20 that I receive each pay period on my pay check every little bit helps.

I filed my taxes in Jan 2009 before the stimulus package was even finalized. I already have zero fed with holding on my pay check due to amount of deductions I claim. Does this mean I will not get anything in stimulus money for 2009… I am single- head of household w/ two small dependents and I earn less than 26,000 annually…. Any answers you can offer me will be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

the stimulus check isn’t a part of your regular paycheck. like last year, it will come separately once the regular tax refunds have been mailed out and completed. the extra money in the paycheck is the money that our president gave to each state for the medicare tax. there’s a whole website designed to explain the stimulus maybe you guys should just read it.

C’mon we on ssi and that have paid our debt to soceity. Were NOT working cos we dont want to(or at least not me)Try paying 475 rent,300 utilities and sending a kid to college all on 700 a mth.Now who needs this 250 dollars? Just be thankful were not in worse shape then we are.How do they send out these one time checks? They tell you everything but that. The waiting(or not knowing )is whats killing me! LOL

It says that how ever you receive your ssi your payment is sent the same way. So if your ssi comes in the mail so will your stimulus. If your ssi is direct deposit so will be your stimuls. You should have recieved a letter stating if your eligible to recieve the payment. Not everyone on SSI is receiving a stimulus payment. So if you havent received a letter your NOT getting a payment.

ben dover IF you are just on welfare and foodstamps you wont get it…You are not on disability …It is for folks ON SSI or SSA who receive that money due to retirement, old age, or injured and cant work and have been proven not to be able to work by a Long process the social security makes you go through BEFORE You receive SSI…Welfare people do not get that check…I would start hunting down jobs do ANYTHING to get off that welfare…its better to work if you can.

My father recieved a stimulus payment last week for $250, he is on SSI. He has barely worked an honest day in his life. My husband who has already worked 4 times as much as him, has not seen any changes in his paycheck and he is an honest hard working man who is trying to provide for his family, we have 2 girls and live pay to pay. Mean while my father is out somewhere wasting his check on bars and useless women. My mother had 4 children and recieved welfare for all 4 of us for as long as she could. By the time the last one was raised, she was on disability and still did not have to work for a check. She has depended on the gov’t for my entire life. Yes she has worked here and there in her life, alittle more than my father, but neither of them have put enough in the SSI to fairly recieve any extra back. She recieved a check last year and this year. Not everyone on SSI worked for it.

I am a retired and slightly disabled veteran of the Navy. I am to receive a stimulus check but I don’t sweat it out. Sure $250 will do some good but the average American will see that little amount of money in his/her pocket and will waste it as usual. Most of the comments I read here are from people looking for a handout. That is one of the problems that has caused this mess in the first place. Too many looking for a handout (freeby) and not enough willing to work for what they want. I did 20 years in the Navy and now work full time at the same time as being partially disabled. The time for excuses has passed. America, get off your fat lazy rear ends and go out and earn what you want. I agree we have needy people in this country but some of the reasons for collecting SSI are ridiculus. ADD, Stress, post partem depression and other words and terms that spell one thing. LAZY

Jim says:

From what I have read, if you are employed, your “stimulus” is an extra $20 in your weekly check. By my calculations, if I can bank that $20 and receive 21% interest (that’s 21 not 2.1) my kids and their kids might be able to buy a gallon of gas or bread after the new tax rates of 2024 are announced. Thanks Obama. Lets mortgage the future of the country to help all of the irresponsible “elite”. I guess we all have to do our part and that part is to bend over and take it. I thought the democrats idea of patriotism was to steal from the rich and give to the poor ie. socialism or robinhood. Obama fooled us all (actually not me–I didnt vote for him)he’s decided to steal from the poor and future poor to “bailout” big business. Bravo, we didnt see that one coming!!

I really wish they had done it like last year and gave everyone a one lump sum!!! I would have done way better things with the stimulus money that way. Now i just blow it on munchies and beer! Otherwise I would have payed off some debt or maybe bought something expensive to help out the economy, now I just blow it on little stuff.

For those of you who are a part of the working class and not on Social Security here is an explanation of our 2009 stimulus (Don’t be waiting for a check in the mail)
”
The second part of the 2009 stimulus check is a tax rebate that amounts to $400 if you are single or $800 if you are married over the course of 2009. Starting in April 2009 the government is lowering the taxes withheld from your paychecks to the amount of about about $20/week so that over the course of the year it would amount to $400 (or $800). This is the only 2009 stimulus check that is available to those that are working. The 2009 stimulus check is essentially a $400 check paid over the course of the year” Sorry to burst anyones bubble. It was a disappointment to me. I work full time and go to college full time. College is so expenesive (as most of you know) and there is never any break for a white female from a middle class family (even though my family doesn’t help with one cent). Gotta love the government!

So my lazy sister-in-law who had 5 kids by the age of 24, doesn’t work and collects SSI for 2 kids because she says they are “under-developed” (but it’s not her fault, even though she drank and smoked throughout her entire pregnancies) will collect a stimulus check while the rest of us who work hard and take care of our families without help from the government get nothing? Nice. Bad enough she gets 8k back at tax time when she doesn’t work!!! What a great message that sends to todays youth.

Im wondering about those of us that are currently trying to survive on long-term disability (pending SSDI approval), we are the .00005% of those not receiving any type of benefit from the stimulus package at all. What about it?
anna says:
July 30th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I was under the impression that they are still working out the details BUT the stimulus is in the form of a tax credit of 6.2% of taxable wages in 2009 & 2010, to a maximum each year of $400 for single taxpayers and $800 for married taxpayers filing jointly of course. I believe this isn’t applicable for singles making more than $75,000 and married couples making more than $150,000. There is no check, just a reduction in income tax withheld from your paycheck. Retired folks get a one time $250.
