A lot of people are asking “Are we going to get a stimulus check for 2009?”.  Well I’ve been doing a bit of research and have found that the White House indeed appear to have agreed to the 2nd Economic stimulus check.

Barack Obama has proposed a check to the value of $1000 each as the 2009 stimulus check and Federal Chairman Ben Bernanke has stated that he favors another stimulus to the US economy. Ex-President Bush has also been heard on the matter and he also favors Government assistance.

Recent polls have been taken and they suggest that 90% of Americans support another stimulus check for 2009.

October 15, 2008 was the last day of filing in order to receive a 2009 stimulus check. The forms necessary to do this can be obtained from the IRS website. The form you require is Form 1040A.

The 2009 stimulus check are sent out by the IRS, starting on December 31st 2008. Because of late filing and incorrect addresses held by the IRS, 5.2 million stimulus checks are still unclaimed, each averaging $583. It is advisable to make sure the IRS have your correct address so that the same problem doesn’t occur with the 2009 rebate.

There are certain elegability criteria for the 2009 check and these are:

  • You have a valid social security number.
  • You must have earned at least $3000.
  • You are not a dependant of somebody else.

The suggested value of the stimulus check you will receive for 2009 depends on whether you files as a single person and also on how many children you have. Add $300 to the check for each child you have and $300 to $600 for single applicants or $600 to $1200 for joint applicants. So for a 2 child family you will be looking at between $1200 and $1800.

If you qualify for a check then in order to receive it you need to file your taxes. For this I recommend TaxAct who provide a free service along with their paid services and can get your refund in as little as 9 days. For more information click here.

Some more news to report on the 2009 stimulus check

The recent stimulus package passed by congress (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009)  has now had the finer details examined and it can now be confirmed that the only mention in the act that relates to a 2009 stimulus check is by way of a section describing a tax credit which will be the lower of $500 or 6.2% of the yearly income of a taxpayer.

So any taxpayer who earns $8064 or more per year will receive a credit of $500. If the taxpayer earns less than $8064 per year then the 2009 stimulus check will be 6.2% of the yearly income. For joint filers the maximum figure is $1000.

If you qualify for a check then in order to receive it you need to file your taxes. For this I recommend TaxAct who provide a free service along with their paid services and can get your refund in as little as 9 days. For more information click here.

For those interested in studying the actual wording of the Act, they will find this in section 1001 of the American Recovery and Investment Act of 2009. This section is titled “Making Work Pay Credit”. There is no actual mention of a 2009 stimulus check.

One other hoped for stimulus was conspicuous by its absence from the stimulus package. This was the possibility for penalty free access to retirement funds, be that a 401(k) or an IRA fund.  It was hoped by many that in the case of hardship a withdrawal would have been possible without incurring a penalty. This approach was favored over the 2009 stimulus check proposal by many experts as this would have resulted in a stimulus to the economy without it being at the expense of the taxpayer.

What Will Be The Result Of The 2009 Stimulus Package?

It was only last Tuesday when President Barack Obama officially signed the stimulus package and put it into law. However, there are some economists who voiced their opinions and said that it would take a couple more years before they can see the corollary of the bill. The views are still varied. Some thinks that the bill is unnecessary while others see it as their new hope.

According to Vincent Burke, a professor in political science, he and his class believe that it can be quite difficult to determine what the outcome of the bill that the president just signed will be. He also mentioned that it is not yet certain that the stimulus package will be 100 percent successful. Even though Professor Vincent Burke agreed that the package is necessary, he thinks that the bill does not include a lot of programs that would boost the current state of the country’s economy.

Vincent Burke also believes that the Republican senates did not do a great job in eliminating the unnecessary items from the said package. This is the same view of a management senior named Jimmy Micikas. Micikas said that the stimulus package must not be a single bill but should have been multiple bills instead.

Another problem that Vincent Burke brings up regarding the stimulus package is that the loaning of huge amounts to the private sectors. If the private sectors would pay the loans back, then there will be no problem about it. Otherwise, there will be more than $700 billion that will be a part of the country’s national debt.

On the other hand, Dave Wise, a political science senior thinks that the stimulus package isn’t actually a good thing. However, he said that with the current economic dilemma of America, many Americans feel that this bill is needed.

Apart from those lucky enough to receive a 2009 stimulus check, it will most likely take at least a year or two before Americans get to see and feel the results of the stimulus package.

2009 Stimulus Checks for those on Benefits

People needed change. That is actually what they saw in Barack Obama before he became the president of the United States. And now that President Barack Obama has signed the 2009 stimulus package, both Americans and non-Americans are happy to know that the new President of the most powerful country in the world is now fulfilling what he promised. He is now trying to stay true to his words so that he can lead America in the country’s quest to emerge from the current economic crisis.

With the current stimulus plan, no American will be left out. Even the recipients of the SS who do not pay taxes and work can actually get a 2009 stimulus check. More often than not, these SS recipients do not get tax credits since they don’t have work. But thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, all of the SS recipients will get will get a one time stimulus check worth $250. All of the social disability recipients are also entitled to have this.

If you are one of the beneficiaries, you don’t have to do anything to get the one off payment. By the time May 9, 2009 comes, these recipients should start to see their stimulus checks arriving.

The American government is meant to serve the people. And since President Barack Obama knows that fact, he is now finding different way and approaches to try and make the United States a great country to live in. Of course, change is not something that only the president can make. Everyone must also do their share in helping as well as supporting the government of America in its quest for a better economy.

Hopefully, the stimulus package that brought hope to a lot of Americans (and even non-Americans) will also be the trigger to create change among the citizens of the country.

The government should be a government of people. As the president finds ways and means to make America the greatest place to live, we should also do our part to help and support the government in its quest for a better America.
